HEATSTRIP® Portable LPG Outdoor Heater Receives 2017 Good Design® Selection in Product Design Category

June 2nd, 2017

Good Design Australia announced the 2017 Good Design Selections today marking the countdown to Australia’s most prestigious awards for design and innovation on June 8th 2017.

After an extensive evaluation process involving more than 35 Australian and international design experts, the Jury have finalised their results and awarded only the best entries to receive the Good Design® Selection.

Heatstrip® Portable LPG Outdoor Heater was one of only 244 entries to receive the 2017 Good Design® Selection and is now in the running to receive the coveted Australian Good Design Award, which will be announced at the Good Design Awards Ceremony on June 8 at the Overseas Passenger Terminal (OPT) in Sydney.

On receiving the Good Design® Selection for Heatstrip® Portable LPG Outdoor Heater, the Jury commented: Elegant and simplistic design gives the Heatstrip® Outdoor Heater a unique design aesthetic that conveys its function in an unobtrusive and effective manner. Very well executed design.”

The Jury set the bar very high this year with only the very best submissions receiving this level of recognition.

Australia’s Good Design Awards date back to the 1950’s and have an enviable record of unearthing globally recognised talent and products.

Last year, the Flow Hive, an innovative beekeeping device that has taken the world by storm took out the prestigious Good Design Award of the Year, the highest design honour in the country.

The 2017 Good Design Awards Ceremony and Festival will coincide with Vivid Sydney, now the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas.

Winners will be celebrated at the black tie Awards Ceremony in Sydney, where guests will be invited to the exclusive opening of the 2017 Good Design Showcase, which will feature the winners of this year’s Awards.

“The Australian Good Design Awards attracted innovative entries from all corners of the world and the standard of submissions this year has really been incredible,” said Dr Brandon Gien, CEO of Good Design Australia and Chair of the Good Design Awards program.

“This is one of the few design award programs in the world where design and innovation are celebrated so broadly. This year’s Good Design® Selections represent excellence in design across the widest spectrum of design including Product Design, Service Design, Architectural Design, Design Strategy, Digital and Communication Design and Social Innovation,” Dr. Gien commented.

“Good design is about making our lives better, safer and happier. It extends to everything around us – from the products we use in our daily lives and the services we interact with to the buildings we live and work in – they can all be improved through better design. That’s what lies at the heart of these Awards”.

Thermofilm was pleased to be recently invited to the SMART MANUFACTURING 2016 EXPO, where several ranges of products were on display, including the award winning HEATSTRIP® electric radiant heaters and Envirotouch™ energy saving switches.

Smart Manufacturing 16 is an industry showcase that presents and promotes Dandenong and South East Melbourne as the largest and most innovative MANUFACTURING ZONE in Australia. We were pleased to participate alongside iconic manufacturers from the region, including Bosch, Jayco and Bombardier.

This unique presentation in the central streets of Dandenong provided the perfect platform for networking with local Governments and manufacturers and providing career guidance for students, and members of the community interested in manufacturing.

The event showcased the industry’s most dynamic members, businesses, thought leaders and ideas in an all-day FREE expo in the heart of Dandenong’s Civic Centre and Surrounding Streets.

Its shows that manufacturing in Australia is still alive and well.

Thermofilm – a new dimension to explore on 3D

June 22nd, 2016

For more than 25 years, Thermofilm has been committed to incorporating the latest technology and manufacturing techniques into our product range.

Our Design & Engineering team is excited by the addition of their new “toy”- the UPBOX 3D printing machine. This allows the production of 3D prototypes in a matter of minutes. Our engineer can sketch an idea in the morning, model it in the afternoon, pop it in the printer and have a sample made the same day. This provides the ability to quickly design and test prototypes for fitment and performance, ultimately meaning a better quality and faster product to market.

Heatstrip® launches sponsorship with the AFL

April 13th, 2016

Heatstrip® is proud to recently sign a major sponsorship with AFL South East. This covers sponsorship of junior, senior and Youth Girls AFL programs in the south east of Melbourne. According to AFL SE Commercial Manager Peter Maynard, our sponsorship helps to “assist with the development of junior and senior programs in Melbourne’s SE, as well as increasing participation at all levels, and promoting a healthy lifestyle in a team oriented environment”.

Participation in junior football is extremely strong in the south east and peninsula regions of Melbourne, with many AFL listed players coming from local clubs in recent seasons. Also, the development of a Youth Girls competition in recent years has seen participation numbers growth significantly and provided a pathway to the new national female AFL competition beginning in 2017.

More information on our sponsorships and community involvement will follow in future newsletters.

HIA Awards Ceremony

February 2nd, 2016

As part of our growing sponsorship program, Thermofilm was proud to support the 2015 HIA Victorian Housing Awards last November, at the Crown Palladium.

The Awards ceremony celebrates the highest standards of workmanship, design, visual appeal, innovation and environmental sustainability of the HIA Victorian home builders.

The Envirotouch switch range sponsored the GreenSmart Energy Efficiency category, while Heatstrip® was a proud sponsor of the Outdoor Kitchen Design award. Also, the addition of Bliss LED lighting products on each table, gave a sense of style and elegance for such a gala event at the Crown Casino.

Above is Steve Carroll (General Manager) presenting the Awards to the lucky winners.

Ecoliv Buildings won the Envirotouch GreenSmart Energy Efficiency category with a modular home set in regional Victoria. Comprised of two prefabricated modules, the home pushes the boundaries of standard domestic construction to achieve cost, time and resource efficiencies. The result is affordable off-the-grid living.

Hargreaves Joinery won the Heatstrip® Outdoor Kitchen category, by designing a functional and aesthetically pleasing outdoor kitchen, that showcases an innovative use of materials. Alifrost aluminium framed doors with UV resistant acrylic panels provide a depth of colour, whilst ensuring the joinery will not suffer from exposure to the elements in years to come. Laminex PV LITE Panel cabinet construction provides the practicality, water resistance and easy to clean properties required for such a project.

Thermofilm supports “The Footy Show”

December 1st, 2015

Thermofilm Heatstrip® was proud to recently donate several Heatstrip® heaters to the Channel 9 AFL Footy Show “Tough Love” segment.

This is a regular segment where the “Footy Show” selects a well deserving volunteer of a local football club and undertakes a $10,000 makeover of their house, with help from Footy Show regulars Garry Lyon, Bill Brownless and Shane Crawford.

In this edition, it was Mick Olsen (and his wife Anne). Mick lives in Drouin, Victoria and is a stalwart of the Drouin Football Club. He recently had a stroke and the Drouin Football Club nominated him for the “Tough Love” makeover. The make-over was of his outdoor entertaining area, and the Heatstrip®s were installed above a new outdoor lounge.

Mick commented “these heaters have helped to make our back patio an enjoyable place for us, as well as our family and friends. We will really be more cosy out there with your heaters”.

Thermofilm are proud to support a great cause and someone that dedicates themselves to the local community.
